Is there a not-a-dessert person on this planet? Does that even exist? As far as I can tell, everyone (I mean EVERYONE) is a dessert person and one does not simply finish a meal without at least something sweet and savory to close the deal.
Swensen’s is a dessert choice and a damn good one at that. I was lucky enough to have been invited to try out their new waffle sundaes at their Eastwood branch and I got a genuine bowl of happiness. Of course I ordered the Super Bowl Choco and people, I had no regrets. The brownies buried in the chocolate ice cream were a pleasant surprise and the chocolate-covered Swensen’s waffle and cherry gave the sundae bowl a nice touch. How could you not love that?
Despite all that, they also called my attention to the Super Bowl M&M and the crowd favorite, the Super Bowl Strawberry. What’s really good about these variants is that they have flashy add-ons (M&Ms, strawberry syrup, nuts) that still give way to how flavorful the ice cream is because, admit it, no matter how much flash and bang you put in a sundae, it’s all about the ice cream.
We snooped around the ice cream tubs in the store and asked a ton of questions about their flavors but one that really stood out was made up of mango ice cream and sticky rice. No, it was not weird. Yes, it was delicious.
Swensen’s still has two sundae variants that I haven’t tried yet: Super Bowl Nutty and Super Bowl Golden. All the more reason to go back!
