“This is amazing!”
You know what the problem is when a restaurant starts out and becomes popular is that people can get overly excited about it. It gets all this attention on Instagram and likes on Facebook because it’s new or it’s unheard of.
Fortunately, Pound (#) is one of those places where you can get it right on the first try despite the fact that they serve but a few dishes. Sometimes, less really is more.
So, back to my first statement. “This is amazing!” was my reaction after my first bite of the T.E. burger (195 php). The truth is that a really good burger doesn’t need much to impress. Stacks of fillings like thick-cut bacon, fancy cheeses, and truffle-fried everything just can’t compare to perfectly grilled ground beef, crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and buttery brioche bun. What’s more is that an additional patty is very much affordable.
Pound’s Good Ol’ Fries (90 php) pair really well with their signature burger, with a feathery coating of spices that makes each piece tender and flavourful. They’d give you ketchup with it right away but I ordered Cilantro Aioli (50 php) which wasn’t so bad either. The serving of fries is not for sharing but the #Onion3 (120 php), rings of onion with crunchy coating, stacked up to the shape of rather large cube, is sufficient for a party of three.
For a setting as intimate as Pound’s, they have alcoholic beverages as limited as their main menu. We haven’t tried any of their desserts but I trust we’ll get to that on another day.
And going back another day is something I am guaranteed to do. Pound has made sure that however reserved the menu, the dishes still withstand the taste test.
